Since this is my first post, I thought I'd get off on the right foot by letting you all know a little about me. My name is Carlos (aka Los), and I'm a 22 year old from Kearny, New Jersey; home to Satriale's Pork Store, Satin Dolls (the "Bada Bing”), and Pizzaland, it sits in the shadow of the Big Apple. If those hints don't mean anything to you, and you haven't heard of Kearny, let me explain further by saying it's the neighboring city to Harrison, East Newark, Newark, North Arlington, and Jersey City. You might have seen a lot of my city if you're a fan of the Sopranos, since the setting for the show is my city, those surrounding it and some of NY. Aside from some traffic backups during taping, it's a pretty good look for our town, which until the start of the Sopranos, didn't have much publicity or claim to fame. I'm a junior at Rutgers University's Newark campus studying Political Science and Criminal Justice. Contrary to what most people think after learning my name, I'm actually not Spanish or Latino, but Portuguese. I'll be reporting/posting as the 'East coast' representative on the HH411 blogs and I'm excited to share my thoughts, opinions and feelings on everything from the state of hip-hop to controversial societal issues that are specifically relevant to the hip-hop community. I'll make it clear now that even though I consider myself opinionated at times, most of my opinions, in regard to choice of music, are unbiased; I'm down for East, West, South, what ever, as long as it's quality hip-hop and has at least a bit of significant conceptual substance (yeah, you're right in assuming "Laffy Taffy" doesn't fit that criteria).
I can see this post getting longer than I wanted, so let me end this short introduction by saying that I'm honored to be a part of the HH411 network and its continued success. I look forward to working with this crew of bloggers to bring you some insightful and thought provoking material, while keeping you informed of what's going on in hip-hop. In closing, I'd like to say: R.I.P. Sean Bell, our thoughts and prayers go out to you, your family, and your friends. As I'm sure you can see looking down on us, your death won't go in vain.
