May 9, 2007 -- NEW YORKERS, be afraid: Why is this man still allowed to drive?

Busta Rhymes is the rap world's answer to Paris Hilton - a crybaby celebutard who refuses to take responsibility for his actions.

Yesterday, the scrappy rapper - whose song "Touch It" should come with a haz-mat suit - turned down an offer of a year in jail, an easy stretch for a laundry list of charges including two assaults, one DWI and one charge of driving with a suspended license. All were earned within a single 10-month period!

But before the man born Trevor Smith could skulk out of court, Judge Larry Stephen declined a prosecution request to suspend his license.

Earlier, wimpy jurist Tanya Kennedy shipped Busta back on the street with a pat on the fanny after he was repeatedly busted for violent offenses.

I ask again - why is this celebu-menace allowed to drive?

Like "poor-me" assault demon Naomi Campbell, Busta pays folks to tell him he's done nothing wrong.

Just like Paris Hilton - whose career as a skinny motorist was finally cut short by a California judge.

Enabler No. 1 is the justice system, which, given repeated opportunities, refuses to clip his wings.

No. 2 is his lawyer, Scott Leemon, who earlier gave a novel excuse for his client's latest bust: "This is payback by the NYPD."

Leemon said cops were mad at Busta for refusing to cooperate in an investigation into the murder of his bodyguard. Imagine.

Yesterday, Leemon told me: "I'm not going to back away from [the statement.] And I'm not going to readdress it."

Busta's one-man crime wave started Aug. 19, when he was accused of kicking a fan who accidentally spit on a car in his entourage.

After Christmas, Rhymes allegedly socked his former driver "with a closed fist about the head and neck" and kicked him in an argument over pay.

On Feb. 20, Judge Kennedy offered him a sweet no-jail plea if he would agree to lecture youths about - get this - the evils of violence.

But two days later, he was stopped by cops for running a red light. "You don't mean s- - - ," he allegedly ranted. "You hide behind the shield." He was charged with driving with a suspended license.

He got his license back in time to be busted for DWI last week.

He's due back in court July 10.

Let's hope no one gets hurt before then.

the person who wrote that article is clearly hating on busta, paris and naomi campbell. just cuz they're celebs doesnt mean they have to act like angels all the time. people make mistakes.
