UPDATE: Busta Rhymes Suit Targets Aftermath and Universal Music Group

New details about the lawsuit filed against Busta Rhymes yesterday (August 6) have emerged that indicate the case may have far more serious implications than previously believed. According to a report from MTV News, the suit filed by alleged assault victim Roberto Lebron targets not only Busta and the nine bodyguards that were present during the alleged attack, but his record label and its parent companies as well. Aftermath Entertainment, Interscope Geffen A&M and Universal Music Group Recordings are all named in the suit, which seeks unspecified punitive and compensatory damages. According to the court papers filed in State Supreme Court on Monday, the plaintiff believes that the labels “utilized the unlawful and illegal behavior and promoted the image created as part of its marketing campaign.” Busta’s public persona is referred to as a marketing ploy that was “designed for publicity, marketing and profit purposes to be rogue, rude, aggressive, misbehaving, challenging, confrontational, disrespectful and, at times, criminal.” Neither the rapper’s attorney, nor any representatives from any of the three record companies were available for comment.
