Helping celebrate the 20th anniversary of independent record label Delicious Vinyl, Em called in to discuss remixing Ace’s ’93 record “Slaughtahouse.” Released on RMXXOLOGY, the multi-platinum selling rapper admitted the difficulty he encountered updating the hip-hop classic. “There’s a lot of classic joints on that record, but there’s also, I mean, that record in itself was a f*cking, was a classic and—I just got in there and started making beats,” Em explained. “I was so used to the original beat, you know what I mean, and then remixing it was kinda like, we tried a bunch of beats to it and just tried a gang of sh*t to it and was like ‘Nah, it don’t sound right.’ I was so locked in to the original, but we finally, I think, hit something.” [Listen Here] Em also detailed the hip-hop influence Ace had on him while growing up in Detroit. “When I heard Masta Ace, like every time I would listen to him he would make me wanna rap,” he confessed. “When I was younger, I had a job at Little Caesars Pizza and I used to walk around with my headphones on and that album, Take A Look Around and Slaughtahouse, played like non-stop in my headphones.” Keeping details to a minimum, the rapper/producer also talked about his new material. “I always do, like, side projects and produce, you know, produce for artists on the label and stuff like that,” Em affirmed. “Right now I’m kinda just concentrating on my own stuff, for right now and just banging out tracks and producing a lot of stuff. You know, the more I keep producing the better it seems like I get ‘cause I just start knowing stuff.” In related news, Em recently made headlines after making a prank phone call to LL Cool J during another Shade 45 interview. Claiming to be “Jason from Miami,” the comic rapper continued on-air as the two played “name that LL verse.” Once the call ended and Em revealed himself, the two exchanged homage with Shady inviting the G.O.A.T. over to his house.
