Joell Ortiz Officially Signs with Aftermath Entertainment

Brooklyn MC Joell Ortiz has officially signed a deal with Dr. Dre’s Aftermath Entertainment. While rumors of a signing with the label had circulated for weeks, sources close to the rapper have confirmed to XXLMAG.COM that it became official last Thursday (August 31) when the deal was finalized. In 2003 Ortiz won the EA Sports Livestyle MC battle and landed a spot on the NBA Live 2005 soundtrack as well as a record deal with Jermaine Dupri's So So Def. The So So Def deal eventually fell through, but Ortiz continued to make music and enjoyed a strong buzz on the strength of mixtape and radio appearances in his hometown of New York. The rapper expects to drop his debut LP with Aftermath sometime in late 2007. In the meantime, he will be dropping a mixtape/street album called The Brick on Koch Records later on this year.

And why does Dre sign new artist but don't release them. Before he signs another one he should make sure that Stat Quo, Eve, G.A.G.E & Bishop Lamont get their albums out.

No shit dude..I mean, Stat Quo is fire. If you download some of his freestyles, you will see what I mean. He is out of Atlanta too. That is exactly what the South needs to gain a little bit of credibility...someone who is lyrical. He has been on the goddamn label for god knows how long...and as far as Detox goes..I have heard about this album for like 2 years now. Is it ever going to come out? Haha.. As far as the other artists you have mentioned, they are fairly new signees to Aftermath...not all, but most of them are. The guy they need to worry about is Stat Quo.

Co-Sign. Stat Quo is makin Atlanta look good cuz of lyrical ability I thank Em and Dre for signin a lyricst like this from the south. His album needs to come out now been waitin for it like Detox. Yung Joc is rappin about that bling bling and pussy and money all the time and that is degrading Atlanta and the rest of the south but it's bout time Stat Quo's album comes out enough is enough tired of waitin. Dre need to stop signin other rappers now and focus on Stat Quo.
