fuck getting a macbook. overpriced pieces of shit. For laptops Dell isn't so bad. If you planning on bringing it to school, you can configure up a Dell Vostro 1400 with a Core 2 Duo and 2 GBs of ram starting at $599. You will have shitass integrated graphics but if you are buying a laptop i doubt you would be doing much gaming on it anyways. Its not like you would have a decent graphics card buying a macbook either.

Its a 14.1" laptop and thats basically the cheapest per size laptop you are gonna find before you get into the ultraportables (which you pay a huuuuuge premium on).

If you are going for something larger you could probably configure up one of those 15.4" laptops as well. I wouldn't get a 17" laptop though, they might not seem too large at first, but they are a bitch to carry around, and wont help you much at school. They are really only suitable for using as a desktop replacement.

Also if you go through dell do a search for some online coupon codes. Often you can find them in random forums and they might save you anywhere from a little to a lot. And try both the "home and office section", and the "small business" section of the dell site. Sometimes they are tricky and have different prices in different sections.

and you best stick with XP if you are going with a laptop.
