Guru, Solar Prep Release Of Jazzmatazz Vol. 4

Wednesday - January 24, 2007

Guru, of Gangstarr fame, and his partner Superproducer Solar are set to release the fourth installment of the Jazzmatazz series on their very own label, 7 Grand Records.

Vol. 4 of the series is entirely produced by Solar and co-produced by Guru. It will feature collaborations with David Sanborn, Common, Bob James, Damian Marley, Bobby Valentino, Vivian Green, Blackalicious, Kem, Caron Wheeler (of Soul2Soul), and up-and comer Raheem Devaughn, among others.

"Without question, this is the best Jazzmatazz release yet," said Guru. "This latest incarnation contains not only hip-hop and jazz, but also elements of soul, funk, and rock."

Jazzmatazz Vol. 4 will be the second release from 7 Grand Records, which is distributed through Rawkus/Sony. The first was the critically lauded release, Guru Version 7.0: The Street Scriptures. Since its release, the pair have been touring in Europe, South Africa, South America, Japan and throughout the US to sold out crowds.

With a career that spans over a decade and 11 LPs deep, Guru has been able to stay relevant when many of his counterparts have faded into the background. When asked how he has been able stay such a viable force in the music industry, Guru states "be honest with yourself, be original, be open to criticism and don’t be afraid to reinvent and recreate oneself."

Solar is the sound of 7 Grand Records. Garnering respect of his own in hip-hop circles, this beat maker has produced tracks for acts like Talib Kweli, Jean Grae, Styles P., Jaguar Wright and B-Real, to name just a few.

Jazzmatazz Vol. 4 is slated for release in April.
